Recent update from Charley's mother on "Smiles For Charley" Facebook Page:
Hey y'all, we are home and we were able to see Charley's neurosurgeon Dr. Johnston. Charley needs surgery again, big surgery.. A little over a year ago when Charley had her big brain surgery. The plan was to go in from the right side of her brain and remove tumor, wait 2 weeks and go back in from the left side of her brain and remove some more tumor. The surgery went so well and her neurosurgeon was able to get a lot more than he thought he would so he decided to not go in for another surgery on the left side. He did say we my have to go back in at another time. We'll that time has come. The part of Charley's tumor on the left side of her brain has grown quite a bit since October. That is also why just her left ventricle looks bigger. The tumor is blocking the cerebral spinal fluid from draining. We don't have surgery scheduled yet but it will be in about two and a half weeks. Just like last time this is a very high risk surgery. Charley tumor is located in the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus links the central nervous system to the endocrine system and that can easily get all out of wack after surgery and cause alot of problems but not doing surgery at all will cause way way more problems.
Please continue to keep sweet Little Miss Charley in your prayers for and during her upcoming surgery.
